Nationals of countries outside the European Union must obtain an ETIAS travel permit to enter Germany, even for a short tourist stay or stopover.

Stay of less than 90 days: ETIAS is sufficient

Travelers from eligible countries will not need a Schengen visa if they plan to stay in Germany for less than 90 days. The ETIAS will replace traditional formalities: a simple electronic authorization linked to the passport will allow entry into the country.

Even without crossing the German border, a stopover at the airport requires ETIAS if the traveler comes from an affected country. No printed document is required: the authorization is recorded electronically.
