Since the Brexit, UK citizens can no longer move freely within the European Union. They need an ETIAS travel permit to enter the Schengen area, even for a short stay.
What is ETIAS?
The ETIAS authorization is an electronic travel authorization. It is required prior to departure for travel to European countries in the Schengen area.

How do I apply for ETIAS?
British citizens must follow the steps below:
- Visit the official ETIAS website
- Complete the ETIAS form online (identity, passport, security)
- Pay ETIAS application fees
- Your ETIAS request will be answered by e-mail within 96 hours.
- Travelling with a valid biometric passport
Is a Schengen visa also required?
No. For short stays (less than 90 days), the ETIAS is sufficient.
But to work, study or settle in Europe, British citizens will need to apply for a national visa from the country concerned.
Which countries require ETIAS for British nationals?
The ETIAS will be mandatory for travel to the 30 countries in the Schengen area, including :
France, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Poland… as well as other member states of the Schengen area.
