Obtaining ETIAS authorization: procedures, conditions and validation
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is an electronic travel authorization for Schengen visa-exempt third-country nationals. Here’s everything you need to know to obtain it quickly online.
Who can obtain an ETIAS?
Before completing the form, it is essential to check that you are eligible for ETIAS. This authorization applies only to :
- stays of less than 90 days (tourism or business),
- nationals of countries on the list of countries admitted to the ETIAS program.
How to obtain an ETIAS
Go to the official portal
You can only apply online. Log on to the official ETIAS website or to a platform authorized by the European Union.
Fill in the application form
You will be asked to provide a number of details to complete your ETIAS form online:
- Full identity: surname, first name, date of birth, nationality, address.
- Passport details: number, validity dates, issuing country.
- EU entry country: the first country you plan to visit.
- Safety issues: criminal records, evictions, presence in high-risk areas.
Paying expenses
A processing fee must be paid online by credit card immediately after submitting the form.
Request validation
Once payment has been made, your details are automatically checked against European security databases (Europol, Interpol…). In most cases, the response is sent within a few minutes. However, ETIAS processing times vary from case to case.
Receipt of ETIAS
If the application is approved, you will receive confirmation by email. The ETIAS is valid for three years, or until your passport expires.
Travelling with an ETIAS: what you need to know
There’s no need toprint out the authorization: it’s electronically linked to your passport. When boarding or crossing the border, agents automatically check your ETIAS status.
