Travelling to Italy: ETIAS authorization will soon be mandatory

Non-European travelers must obtain an ETIAS travel authorization to enter Italy without a visa, even for a simple stopover. This electronic formality replaces the visa for short tourist stays of less than 90 days.

Is ETIAS enough to go to Italy?

Yes, if you are a national of an ETIAS-eligible country, you can travel in Italy and throughout the Schengen area without a visa, provided you have this valid authorization.

Online procedures: how to apply for the ETIAS?

The ETIAS application is entirely online. All you need to do is :

• Valid biometric passport;
• Fill in the ETIAS form online;
• Pay the fee (€7) by credit card;
• Wait for automatic processing (usually within 96 hours).

Remember to apply at least 8 days before departure to avoid denied boarding.

Stopover or transit in Italy: ETIAS required

The ETIAS is also required for stopovers in Italy, even if you don’t leave the airport. Once issued, the authorization is electronically linked to the passport, so there’s no need to print it out.

How much does ETIAS cost Italy?

The ETIAS rate is €7 for adults aged between 18 and 70. Children and senior citizens are exempt. Payment is made online only. No application will be processed without prior payment.
