Check that your ETIAS is still valid
When you request anETIAS authorization, the status displayed may be “pending”. This means that your file has not yet been validated. Why does this happen? How long do I have to wait? And what steps need to be taken to resolve the situation? Here’s what you need to know.
Why is your ETIAS application on hold?
A “pending” status indicates that processing of your ETIAS form is suspended for verification. There are several reasons for this delay:
- Enhanced controls : If you have indicated a sensitive medical or criminal history or recent travel history, the authorities may trigger a manual analysis.
- Errors on the form : A typing error on your name or valid passport number, or an incorrect document, can block the procedure.
- Data cross-referencing: Your profile is automatically compared with several databases (SIS, Interpol, Europol). Any inconsistency triggers an additional check.
How long does it take to process a pending ETIAS application?
The standard ETIAS processing time is between 24 and 96 hours. If your application remains blocked beyond this time, advanced checks are underway. In some cases, the authorities may ask you for additional supporting documents by e-mail.
What to do if the status is blocked?
- Check your mailbox: A message containing instructions or a document request may have been sent.
- Wait up to 4 working days: Most requests are released within this time.
- Contact ETIAS support if no return after 96 hours: Use the official ETIAS website to ask your question, indicating your file number.
Can I travel with an ETIAS “pending”?
No. The ETIAS must be validated before you can enter the Schengen area. Until you have received final approval, you are not authorized to travel.
