Renewing an ETIAS: procedure and deadlines
An ETIAS authorization is essential for visa-free travel within the Schengen area, for tourist or business stays of less than 90 days. It is valid for only 3 years, or until the expiry date of the passport used to obtain it.
When should I renew my ETIAS?
Check the validity of your ETIAS at least 72 hours before departure for Europe. If your passport has expired (3 years or more), you must renew it.
How do I renew an expired ETIAS?
Renewal of an ETIAS is carried out via the online ETIAS form, following exactly the same steps as for the first application:
- Fill in the online ETIAS form with your personal and passport details.
- Answer safety questions.
- Make your ETIAS payment online.
Once completed, the file is treated as a new application.
Is renewal automatic?
