ETIAS processing times: how long does it take to receive authorization?
How long does it take to obtain ETIAS?
Most ETIAS applications are approved within minutes. But depending on your situation, the review may take longer. There are four possible scenarios:
Immediate treatment (95% of cases)
In the vast majority of cases, the application is validated automatically. If your answers to the questions on the ETIAS form raise no doubts, you’ll receive your authorization in just a few minutes.
4-day lead time: additional checks
If your profile requires cross-referencing with European databases, a manual check may be carried out. This can take up to 4 days.
14-day deadline: documents required
In some cases, you will need to send additional information (documents, supporting evidence, etc.). In these cases, the deadline runs from the time of submission, up to a maximum of 14 days.
Exceptional lead time: up to 30 days
On rare occasions, a personal interview is required by the authorities. This extends the processing time to 30 days, mainly for reasons of heightened security. During this period, your ETIAS application will have a pending status.
When should I apply for ETIAS?
Even if it’s often quick to obtain, we strongly advise you to make arrangements at least two weeks before departure, in order to anticipate any unforeseen delays or requests for supporting documents.
