ETIAS Online Form: How to Apply for a Travel Authorization

The ETIAS form is available online on the official website of the European Union. All you need is a valid passport, an email address, and a credit card. In the vast majority of cases, authorization is granted automatically within minutes of submitting the form.

The official ETIAS form is available at travel-europe.europa.eu/etias — the only official European Union portal for submitting a valid application.

Payment for the ETIAS form

The €20 payment is made directly through the online form during the final step of the application. We accept major international credit cards. We do not accept payments by bank transfer, cash, or check. Those exempt from fees—people under 18 and over 70—must still complete the entire form but will not be asked to pay. For more information on payment methods, visit our ETIAS payment page.

After submission: what happens next?

Once the form has been submitted and payment confirmed, the ETIAS system performs an automated real-time check against several European and international databases: the Schengen Information System (SIS), the Visa Information System (VIS), Entry/Exit System (EES), Europol, and Interpol databases. Over 95% of applications are approved almost immediately. If further verification is required, the processing time may extend up to 30 days. For full details on processing times, visit our ETIAS processing times page.

ETIAS Form and Mobile App

Applications can be submitted via the official ETIAS website or through the official ETIAS mobile app, developed by eu-LISA and available prior to the system’s launch. This app will be published on the Apple App Store and Google Play, exclusively under the name of the European Union. Any other ETIAS app available before the official launch in the fourth quarter of 2026 is unofficial. To identify official resources, visit our page on the official ETIAS website.

Can I apply on behalf of someone else?

Yes. The ETIAS form can be completed by a third party on behalf of the traveler—a parent for a minor child, a relative for a senior, or a travel agent. The person completing the form must indicate that they are acting on behalf of the applicant and provide their own contact information as well. The applicant is responsible for the accuracy of the information entered. See our ETIAS for Children page for details specific to minors.

Frequently Asked Questions About the ETIAS Form

Is the ETIAS form available in French?

Yes. The official EU portal will be available in all official languages of the European Union, including French. French-speaking citizens—whether from Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, or elsewhere—will be able to submit their applications in French directly on the official website.

Do you have to fill out a form for each Schengen country you visit?

No. A single form is sufficient for your entire trip within the Schengen Area, regardless of the number of countries you visit. The form asks you to indicate the first Schengen country you plan to visit, but the authorization automatically covers all countries in the Schengen Area for its 3-year validity period.

What should I do if I made a mistake on the form?

If authorization has not yet been granted, you can update certain information. If authorization has already been granted and you notice an error, there are procedures in place to update your information. Visit our page on updating your ETIAS to find out what to do based on your situation.

Is the information provided in the form secure?

Yes — provided you use the official website. The official portal, travel-europe.europa.eu, uses security protocols that comply with European data protection standards (GDPR). Data is processed by eu-LISA in accordance with strict confidentiality rules. This is precisely why it is essential to avoid unofficial third-party websites, which do not offer any of these safeguards.

Can I apply from any country?

Yes. The ETIAS form can be completed from any country in the world—including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or any other country. There are no geographical restrictions on accessing the online form. The application can be submitted well in advance of your trip—the authorization is valid for 3 years from the date it is issued.

Is the ETIAS form already available?

No. The ETIAS system is not yet operational. No valid applications can be submitted before the official launch, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. Any website claiming to process ETIAS applications before that date is unofficial. The European Commission will announce the exact launch date several months in advance on the official website.
